Police Suspect Gang Activity in Overnight Columbia Shooting
COLUMBIA - Columbia police say a non-fatal shooting that sent a man into surgery was likely gang related. An officer near Sylvan Lane in North Columbia was already in the area when he heard several gunshots. Soon after, police, fire personnel, and medics responded to a 911 call from 1511 Sylvan Lane. They found an 18-year-old male victim shot once in the hip area. Medics took the man to the hospital where he was taken into surgery.
Investigators found multiple shell casings in the street outside the apartment, as well as bullet holes in the building. Police have identified no suspects at this time, but they say the shooting was likely gang related.
