Political Activist from Maldives Returns to Fulton
FULTON - A Westminster College graduate fighting for election reform in the Maldives returns to the Fulton campus this week to discuss her political activism.
Shauna Aminath is a 2008 Westminster graduate and a native of the Maldives. She was arrested in the Indian Ocean republic after the 2012 ouster of President Mohamed Nasheed.
Aminath was a deputy undersecretary in Nasheed's administration. She now works to restore the democratic elections that have been replaced by parliamentary votes.
The schedule for her weeklong stay at Westminster included a speech scheduled for noon Tuesday in the Hunter Activity Center.
About 16 percent of the students at the private, liberal arts college come from nearly 70 other countries.
