Poplar Bluff Man Sentenced in Shooting Death
CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) - A southeast Missouri man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for shooting another man, apparently during an argument over a woman.
Paris Thomas of Poplar Bluff was sentenced Monday for the 2011 death of 29-year-old Marcus McFarland. He had been charged with first-degree murder but was sentenced for voluntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm after reaching a plea deal in September.
The Southeast Missourian reports that Thomas has said he shot McFarland because they were arguing over a woman.
Thomas' attorney, Steve Lynxwiler, said his client also was under the influence of drugs at the time of the killing.
