Postal Service Braces for Holiday Rush
"We have always known that this Monday here, after the weekend right before Christmas, is the busiest that we have for our retail unit."
One postal patron said, "I mailed over 100 Christmas cards. Last night, I couldn't even get them in the mailbox because they were completely packed "
The U.S. Postal Service estimates it will handle 900 million packages and letters, and the lines at the counter and at the automatic express machine seemed to bear that out.
"I just dropped about 120 [cards] in the drive-through mail because I wanted to get it out by 5:30. But, I was probably about 30 stamps short."
Postal workers will be almost as busy on Wednesday, when they will deliver most of what you mailed Monday.
