COLUMBIA - Volunteers were hard at work Tuesday night adorning christmas trees with ornaments, ribbon and photos of families and children who have received services from the Lutheran Family & Children Services of Missouri (LFCS). Tomorrow marks the opening of the 16th Annual Festival of Trees, which benefits LFCS and its teen pregnancy counseling and adoption services.
Program co-chair Katherine Lavitt is helping out with the program for her sixth year in a row, alongside co-chair Stacy Peters.
"It's amazing to see what a difference this can make in other people's lives," said Lavitt.
Last year the Festival of Trees brought in $30,000 through ticket sales and two auctions. All of the proceeds stay in mid-Missouri for LFCS. Wednesday night there will be a tea with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus from 4-6 p.m. Thursday night the gala will take place where a live and silent auction will offer the nine decorated christmas trees contributed by volunteers in the community, as well as local florists. The events will take place at the Holiday Inn Executive Center.
Tickets for the tea are $25 for adults, $10 for children ten and under. Tickets for the gala are $75 per person.
