President Signs Disaster Declaration for Missouri
WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama ordered federal aid Friday for several counties along the Missouri River. The federal aid will help state and local recovery in places affected by severe storms and floods from July 1 to August 1.
This action allows federal funding to people affected in Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Holt, Lafayette and Platte counties.
Grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help people and business people will be available to help recovery. Funding can also be available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard management measures statewide.
FEMA is still conducting damage surveys and more counties might be designated after the surveys are complete.
FEMA said that citizens and businesspeople who endured losses can start applying for aid Saturday by registering online or by calling 1-800-621-3362 (or 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing and speech impaired). The toll-free numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
