Pressure Mounts for Nationally-Ranked Tigers
The Tigers' media day at Taylor Stadium on Friday afternoon focused on pitcher Max Scherzer, the returning Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, who is a pre-season First Team All-American. Scherzer is surrounded by plenty of talent: 7 returning starters including outfielder Hunter Mense, who played with Scherzer on team USA last summer. Sherzer and his MU teammates are getting lots of pre-season respect.
"He's earned it," said Tim Jamieson, MU baseball coach. "I think our program's earned it, too. I think the people say, 'Well, you deserve to be ranked 10th.' Well, it's all based on what you've done in the past, and expectations for this year as it relates to Max and it relates to us. I think we've earned that."
Scherzer added, "A lot of people like to see us have fun, go out there. I'd like to pitch in big games anyway. They're more fun."
The Tigers toss out the first pitch of the season in the Charleston Southern Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 9, against East Tennessee in Charleston, S.C.
