Proposals to Improve Safety on College Avenue
COLUMBIA - A group of Columbia residents met Tuesday night to discuss possible improvements along College Avenue for walkers. The main area of concern is near the MU campus.
Committee members presented eight alternatives, three involve different types of medians that would stretch along College Avenue between University Avenue and Rollins Street. Two other proposals would introduce a pair of crosswalks, while the final two proposals include a combination of medians and crosswalks.
The committee's design team recommends constructing either a raised wall or fence with individual crosswalks accompanying them.
The next step is to hold a public hearing at the next city council meeting.
