CEDAR HILL (AP) -- A St. Louis-area puppy shot in the spine last week is making a recovery, and rescuers say the dog they've named Dodger has a 90 percent chance of walking again.
The 4-month-old black Labrador retriever mix was found Sept. 25 dragging himself along a highway in the Cedar Hill area of Jefferson County. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Dodger had surgery and can now put weight on his back legs.
Veterinarians who operated on Dodger say based on the bullet's position, the shooter likely stood over the puppy as the shot was fired.
The Open Door Animal Sanctuary is offering a $1,000 reward in the case. Anyone with information may call 314-709-2025.
St. Louis pet food company Nature's Variety paid for Dodger's surgical expense, estimated at about $4,000.
