Qualified low-income Columbia families eligible to get a computer
COLUMBIA - As part of the "Homes for Computers" program, the City of Columbia, Voluntary Action Center, and Downtown Optimist Club are partnering to provide qualified low-income families with surplus refurbished computers.
Eligible families must have at least one child in kindergarten through 12th grade and have residency within Columbia's city limits. Applications are available at the VAC office at 403A Vandiver Drive in Columbia and are due at the office on February 10.
Families who do not already have a computer in their home and have not received a computer through the program already are given priority. If more applications are received than there are computers to give out, a drawing will be held at the VAC office.
Chosen families will be notified after February 13 and can pick up their computer on February 18 between 9 a.m. and noon at the Optimist Building at 1201 Grand Avenue in Columbia.
The "Homes for Computers" program has been in place since 2003 and has provided nearly 500 computers to local families.
If you wish to donate a computer to the program for refurbishing, the following Columbia businesses will accept them:
- Best Buy
- Columbia Computer Center
- Mid-MO Recycling
- New World Recycling
- Office Depot
