Rallying For Runoff
On Thursday, judges of the 26th judicial court said there were irregularities in April's mayoral election between Paul Sale and Johnny Franzeskos where only one vote seperated the candidates.
The court stated that a recount of the votes will not resolve the doubt of the election, so a run-off will be held on May 22nd.
Both candidates want to settle the election as soon as possible and are campaigning hard.
"I'm talking to people, I'm out meeting the people, I'm out looking at the think and I'm out doing the micromanagement thing I just want to know," Sale said from his new ice cream shop.
Given the close results, Mayor Sale asked the court for help.
"With the future of the city weighing on this whole thing, I wasn't going to flip a coin. I wanted the public to tell us," he said.
The 26th judicial court agreed. KOMU spoke with Franzeskos on the phone this afternoon, he declined our request to speak on camera saying it shows the importance of one vote. That's something they both agree about.
"You've heard a lot of people say, 'I'm not going to go vote, it doesn't make any difference.' Well, it does make a big difference," Sale said.
