MOBERLY - The Randolph County YMCA hosted the eighth annual Healthy Community Day Saturday morning.
Before the event, Randolph County commissioners proclaimed April 27, 2013 as Healthy Community Day and balloons were released as celebration.
More than 25 resources were available at the event, all focusing on either mental or physical health. Along with information, health simulations were presented to give attendees the opportunity to experience what is is like to have disabilities, including depression and dyslexia.
Event organizer Ann Elliott said the focus of Healthy Community Day is educating the public on important issues.
"Education is so important and educating people on how to stay healthy, how to look out for mental health disorders and just like any physical illness, with mental illness, the sooner it's detected and the sooner it's treated, the less likely you're going to have for other diagnoses to develop," Elliott said.
