Recycling ambassadors hold first training
COLUMBIA - The City of Columbia and the Public Works Department will hold their first recycling ambassadors' training.
"This evening during the recycling ambassadors' training, citizens that are enrolled in the program will learn about recycling techniques as far as city's curbside recycling program, and other outlets for recycling as well," program specialist Andrea Shelton said.
Household waste collection, e-collection, tire collection, mulch drop off sites, and food waste recycling will be taught when members meet at the ARC Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m.
"We're utilizing citizens to educate other citizens, and we're utilizing their unique talents and skills to be able to transfer this recycling information," Shelton said.
She said, due to the winter months and holidays, she didn't expect more than five people for the training, but more than two dozen have registered.
The training is a part of the recycling ambassadors initiative which started last month.
The next training will be held in February.
