COLUMBIA - Derrick Ivivy has been the manager of Civic Recycling on Brown Station Road for six years and said people are not dropping off things to be recycled as often as they could. He thinks this may be because people are unaware of what things can be recycled and how important recycling is for the city.

"Unfortunately I think the awareness of recycling isn't told to the public," Ivivy said. "I don't think a lot of people know how important recycling is to the environment and the community."

In an effort to increase the lack of awareness Ivivy mentioned, the Environment and Energy Commission Recycling Subcommittee will meet tonight at 7 in City Hall to discuss the city's recycling efforts and ways to improve them.

The meeting will begin with a presentation by Cynthia Mitchell from the Public Works Department.
