Regency and El Ray Trailer Parks to Shut Down
COLUMBIA - KOMU 8 has learned the Columbia Regency Mobile Home Park will be shutting down. Residents of the park received notices of closing over the weekend and must pack up and move out by 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 29. According to Grass Roots Organizing, GRO, El Ray trailer park will also be shutting down. The El Ray park is located northeast of town off of Mexico Gravel Road and near Lake of the Woods.
The closing of Regency comes on the heels of a rezoning request submitted by Regency of Missouri Inc and an Austin-based developer. Columbia's Planning and Zoning Commission denied the request on the grounds of limited space and traffic concerns. The city council is still set to vote on the rezoning request at its Nov. 21 meeting.
The developer, Aspen Heights, would replace the trailers with a max of 375 units on the 40 acre lot. The new units would house around 1,000 college students. It would be similar to the near-by Cottages development.
Regency of Missouri Inc is owned by the Churchill Group based out of Carbondale, CO.
