Regency Hotel Proposes Renovation
COLUMBIA - The Regency Hotel is proposing a $17.5 million redesign to better represent the 'ambiance' of downtown Columbia. According to plans introduced to the city council, the new hotel will feature an indoor pool, rooftop patio lounge and locally inspired artwork.
According to Trip Advisor, 77-percent of travelers surveyed do not recommend staying at the hotel. The re-design, Broadway Lodging LLC, plans to make the renovated hotel part of an upscale luxury franchise.
No final decisions have been made, however, if built it would span more than 81,000 square feet. Developers plan to fund the improvements through a combination of a bank loan, private equity and tax increment financing.
