Residents React to Officer Charged with Rape
MOBERLY - Moberly residents reacted Monday to former Moberly Police Officer Michael Rudder being charged with second degree sexual assault and sodomy.
"He was energetic," Moberly resident Mike Jaspers said. "A cool guy to be around I guess, friendly, especially toward disabled people."
Many residents like Jaspers knew Rudder because they went to high school around the same time he did. Some residents were surprised to hear of the news that Rudder had been charged. Rudder was charged on Aug. 31 when he turned himself in. Rudder did that when a warrant came out for his arrest.
KOMU tried asking Moberly Sergeant Kevin Palmatory about the issue. He would not comment on camera but did say Rudder was an employee at one time with the station. Rudder worked from October 31, 2010 to June 14, 2011.
Rudder's attorney Stephen Wilson says the alleged crimes occurred somewhere between October 1, 2010 and May 1, 2011. That means the alleged crimes may or may not have occurred while Rudder was with Moberly PD.
