Rising Gas Prices Could Affect Weekend Travel Plans
COLUMBIA - Those traveling home this weekend for the Easter holiday may have to factor in the high gas prices. With numbers reaching as high as $3.79 per gallon at various stations around Boone County, many travelers are suddenly opting to stay in town to save some money.
Clarence Williams' car is not the one he usually likes to drive. But he said the rising prices at the pump have caused him to switch vehicles. "I'm driving a small car right now," he said, "because I have a Chevy and it takes up a lot more gas... 60 something more dollars a tank."
And while Williams wasn't originally planning to go home to celebrate Easter with his family, he said he wouldn't have been able to anyway as the prices, "are killing my pockets."
According to AAA, gas prices are almost $1 higher on average per gallon than they were just a year ago.
