Road Closes to Expand High School Route
COLUMBIA - Contractors began the closing process of St. Charles Road Monday so workers can expand the route to accommodate anticipated traffic for the new Battle High School.. Workers installed traffic control detour signs that warn drivers about the road closing and offer alternative routes. The closing on St. Charles Road will be along the high school's boundaries between the intersections of N. Frank Stanton Drive to Route Z.
Drivers should use the detour north along Lake of the Woods Road, which allows access to Mexico Gravel Road. That is the main alternative route around the site. The complete detour is an estimate 4.5 miles.
Residents near the closure will receive a letter that gives specifics about the inconvenience.
Lamar Henderson, the public information officer for Boone County said, "The ultimate goal is to create a safer route for when Battle High School opens to keep traffic flow proper and safe."
The road will be officially closed Tuesday starting at 8 am. The route is estimated to be closed for 4-5 weeks.
