COLUMBIA - The Rock Bridge girls tennis team has been known for some success. With eight state championships and two in a row, some players don't know what it's like not to win a state championship.

"We just have a really strong team," said Sophomore Phoebe Boeschen, the No. 2 player on the team. "Each year we're going to have a strong team."

Coach Ben Loeb and the rest of the Bruins are trying to make it three straight state championships in a row at the state tournament in Springfield on Thursday.

"Given our past success, for better or for worse, the bar has been set rather high," said Coach Loeb.

The Bruins first semi-final match Thursday is against a familiar foe: Jefferson City. Rock Bridge beat the Jays earlier this year 8-1.

Playing in high pressure situations like the state tournament isn't new to Rock Bridge. Out of the past 14 years, 13 years the Bruins have made the final four.

If Rock Bridge beats Jefferson City, they'll go on to play the winner of Lee's Summit North and St. Joseph's Academy in the championship game.
