COLUMBIA - Rock Bridge High School hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday to unveil a new multi million dollar auxiliary gym complex.
The ceremony marked the completion of 15 months of construction for the gym area.
The 4.1 million dollar complex features the gym, wrestling rooms, a weight room, locker rooms, and offices.
"It just expands our opportunities for kids," said Rock Bridge athletic director Jennifer Mast. "You know, we have been practicing in one gym. We've been one of the largest high schools in the state practicing in one gym."
Mast said Rock Bridge's second gym will primarily be used for team practices but has the potential to host varsity sporting events.
The gym features one high school regulation size volleyball and basketball court with the option of splitting the court in half with a retractable curtain to allow for two full-sized courts side-by-side.
Located on the west end of the school, gym was funded by a $120 bond issue the school received in 2010.
