Roy Moore loses Alabama Senate race; GOP margin narrows
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alabama Republican Roy Moore, beset by allegations of sexual misconduct, lost his bid to become a senator. He was defeated by former U.S. attorney Doug Jones.
Several women have accused Moore of sexual assault. Two of them said they were teens at the time it happened.
Moore was once Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. President Donald Trump was a vocal supporter, even after the allegations surfaced.
Moore's loss in a heavily Republican state deals Trump a political blow and narrows the GOP's Senate majority to just two seats.
Jones will be the first Democrat in 20 years to represent Alabama in the Senate.
