Royals make second trade before the deadline
KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Royals have acquired Ben Zobrist as part of a trade with the Oakland Athletics. In return for Zobrist and cash considerations, the Athletics received minor league pitchers Sean Manaea and Aaron Brooks.
Zobrist, a two-time all-star, is hitting .268 through 67 games this season. Prior to this season, he spent the first nine season of his career in Tampa Bay until he was traded to Oakland in January of this year.
Now, with the addition of Zobrist, they have a veteran utility player who has played every position throughout his career with the exception of pitcher and catcher. He will start in the outfield to replace Paulo Orlando who was playing for the injured Alex Gordon.
With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Royals are making moves that will enable them to make not just a playoff run, but a World Series run as well. In three days the Royals have completed two trades, including on Sunday when they traded for Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cueto.
