COLUMBIA - Several mid-Missouri cities including Columbia, Jefferson City, Moberly, Boonville and Mexico are not participating in exempting city/county sales tax during this weekend's upcoming state sales tax holiday.

The sales tax holiday which starts this Friday and lasts until midnight Sunday, exempts sales tax for certain back-to-school purchases. The states portion of the tax rate (4.225%) will be exempt for the sale of the qualifying items. The items include clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items defined by state law.

With the state exempting sales tax during the given time period, local jurisdictions can choose not to participate in exempting the local tax if they enact an ordinance.

You can go here to see the full list of cities exempting the local sales tax for the holiday.
