Salvation Army in Need of Donations
"When we have empty shelves it can be a combination of needing more donated food or it can mean we're serving a lot of people, and actually, both of those things are the case," said Salvation Army Development director Cindy Chapman.
In particular, turkey and dessert donations are down.
"With energy prices and the general economy a little bit unsure, we find that people have an even greater need for groceries, for us to supply them with groceries," said Chapman.
Donations will be used for Thursday's dinner, but also for deliveries.
Long time volunteer Richard Hauschild expects a big crowd. ''I think we're really ought to count on probably somewhere in between 800 and 900 right here at the restaurant, and the additional 200," said Board Member and Volunteer Richard Hauschild. "So we're probably looking at well over a thousand meals being served.''
For the first time, the dinner will take place at Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken restaurant.
Food donations will be accepted until Wednesday.
