Salvation Army Women's Group Sponsors Event
COLUMBIA - Judith McKenney thinks music is a great way to raise money for the Columbia Salvation Army. In addition to performing in the "Music in the Air" benefit concert, she helped organize it.
"I'm a professional singer, so [a concert] was a natural," McKenney said about the fund-raising event. The concert took place at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon. Musicians from around Mid-Missouri came together for the event.
McKenney is part of the new Women's Auxiliary. The group plays a key role in raising money for the Salvation Army.
"The Women's Auxiliary is commissioned to raise funds and to raise fun," Major Kendall Mathews said. He is the Salvation Army Coordinator for central Missouri. The Women's Auxiliary will plan fundraising events for the Salvation Army.
Mathews hopes the benefit concert will attract more professional women to be involved in the Women's Auxiliary.
The auxiliary group currently has 3 members. They are looking for 6 more women.
The Columbia Salvation Army is located at 1108 W. Ash Street.
