Samaritan Center Needs Help
Swan and his wife Kathlene rely on the center for everything from food to dental work to help paying for prescription drugs. Now, the Samaritan Center needs help.
"They had to make a choice, 'Do I get gas to go to work or do I eat?' And working was more important to keep their lights on, their rent paid. So they're coming here for food," said Executive Director Marylyn Defeo. "It's your neighbor, people just have no idea. It's your neighbor on the same block. We just don't know our neighbor, you know, like we used to. If we knew that, we'd be taking them covered dishes or something."
Swan added, "People got to realize you live in a community, you're all neighbors, you're all friends. You're supposed to help one another. And if people can do that, I think the Samaritan Center would be a lot better off than what it is."
The center needs donations of foods such as bread, soup, vegetables, rice and pasta.
