ROLLA, Mo. - Missouri University of Science and Technology's new chancellor doesn't have to look far when it comes to the continued struggles to increase participation by female scientists in both academia and private business.

Cheryl Schrader is an electrical engineer who took over the Rolla campus in April 2012 after nearly a decade as engineering dean and an associate vice president at Boise State University in Idaho. She's one of the few female engineers who have landed in such top positions on a U.S. campus.

Schrader hopes to increase the number of women on campus in both the student and faculty ranks. Female students account for less than 25 percent of total enrollment, while tenured male professors and those on the tenure track outnumber women by more than four to one.
