School Board Asks For Input
The school will not open until fall 2009, but the district said they want to hear from parents now about what is most important to them in redrawing district lines.
Parents met on Tuesday night to discuss what the district should consider when redrawing district lines. This meeting is the fourth of seven taking place during the month of October to hear opinions by parents from each elementary school. The proposed site is in Northeast Columbia near Waco Road.
The committee said they want a plan for new enrollment boundaries that will reduce overcrowding, cut bus ride time and reflect overall Columbia demographics.
Committee members said they know parents in each district will each have their own opinion when it comes to their kids and schools.
"The ultimate goal is that when we present to the Board of Education nobody's sad, right?" said Elementary Enrollment Planning Committee Chair Donald Ludwig. "That would indicate to me that we did a good job."
After the meetings in October are complete, the committee will come back to parents for another round of forums in March with a preliminary plan. A final plan will be presented to the Board of Education in May 2008.
