Search For Missing Trooper Continues
MOUND CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a cadaver dog has picked up a scent in the search for a missing trooper. Trooper Frederick Guthrie and his dog, Reed, disappeared August 1 near Big Lake as they were patrolling areas flooded by the Missouri River. Authorities think they were swept away by the water. The dog's body was found August 2.
Searchers began draining a washed-out area in Holt County near Mound City on Thursday. Pumps took out about 900,000 gallons an hour from a four-acre hole caused by the floods. Patrol spokesman Sgt. Sheldon Lyons told The Kansas City Star that the dog "made a positive indication" Saturday. He said the cadaver dog detected the scent near where the other dog was also found.
