Senate Extends Payroll Tax Cut
WASHINGTON - The US Senate has passed a temporary version of the Social Security Payroll tax cut and jobless benefit bill that extends until February. The measure awaits approval by the House next week.
The bill calls for a two percentage point tax cut that reportedly affects 160 million US residents. The jobless payments averages out to around $300 for those who have been unemployed for six months or more. Senators approved the vote 89-10 during a Saturday session.
