Seniors to Carry Columbia College
The Columbia College men's basketball team began this season with their top two players back in the lineup. Shooting guard Terrance Smith and forward Nowahn Saxon were both first team all conference and region selections. Their coach hopes their skills and desire to win will spread to the rest of the team.
"I think the intelligence level that those two guys have and their passion for the game is something that can be infectious," said Head Coach Bob Burchard.
The Cougars have a young team this season which means they will need plenty of leadership from both Smith and Saxon.
"Just try to set an example, just be out there as a leader in all situations, close games, blow out games, just come out and do it the right way," said Smith.
This year's Cougar basketball team looks to get back to the National Tournament, but first this young team needs to prove themselves in all aspects of the game.
"Fundamentally we need some work, I think we will get there, our upside is real strong, we're not as physical as I'd like us to be, and I think that's something we will probably have to work on," said Burchard.
"Individually, I think each player should try to improve on every part of their game, every year, because if there is not any improvement then there's not really anything that you are doing," said Saxon.
The Cougars were bounced from the NAIA National Tournament in the first round last season and hope this year brings a better ending.
I think right now we are in the beginning phases of trying to get them to that level, and only time will see, only time will tell."
They look to improve on their record of 21-14 from last season.
