Severe Weather Might Hike Home Insurance Rates
JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Insurance Coalition predicts home insurance rates for Missourians will rise before the end of the year, following an onslaught of severe weather in places like Joplin and Branson.
Brent Butler, the Government Affairs Director at Missouri Insurance Coalition, spoke with KOMU 8 Tuesday. He said Missouri's insurance rates tend to be fairly low, but based on past instances of severe weather, like the hail storm near St. Louis in 2001, the state saw insurance rates increase. Butler does not expect impending increases to be in the double digits.
Butler suggests Missourians prepare for any upcoming bad weather by making sure their homeowner's insurance is up-to-date and preparing an inventory list of the expensive items in their home.
