Shelby Gordon Signs with Columbia College Volleyball
COLUMBIA - Cougar volleyball coach Melinda Wrye-Washington has announced the signing of Shelby Gordon to a letter of intent to play for Columbia starting in the fall of 2013. Gordon, a 5-10 outside hitter and native of Republic, Missouri, spent the past two years at Southwest Baptist University and Drury University.
She was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in 2012 and was selected to the Dean's List at both schools. While at Republic High School, Shelby was a three-year starter for the school's varsity volleyball squad and was named to the all-conference team in 2009. She helped lead the team to a state quarterfinal appearance in 2008 and 2009 in addition to a district and sectional championship in those seasons as well. She was also a member of the National Honor Society from 2009-2011 and an academic all-state selection in 2010 and 2011.
"Shelby is a solid volleyball player with the ability to play and contribute in multiple positions," said Wrye-Washington, "She strives for excellence in the classroom as well as in athletics and should be a great fit to our program."Gordon plans to double-major in Sports Management and Pre-Physical Therapy at Columbia.
