VIENNA, MO. - A Maries County Sheriff's Deputy discovered a stolen vehicle during a routine traffic stop Friday night. Deputy Jason Comstock made the stop on Highway 63 North in Vienna City limits where after an investigation it was determined the vehicle was stolen from a tow yard out of Phelps county.

Sheriff's Deputies arrested the driver who provided false identification. The driver was later identified as 19-year-old Cole P. Woodward of St. James. While at the Sheriff's Office Woodward attempted to escape the jail and kicked out a window in the court house. After a brief struggle Sheriff's Deputies took custody of Woodward and secured him in jail.

Woodward was charged with two counts of attempted escape from custody while under arrest for a felony, property damage 2nd degree, and false impersonation. Woodward may have additional charges out of Phelps County for the stolen truck. Woodward remains in the Maries County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
