Shooting Fireworks Illegal in Columbia
Shooting off fireworks is illegal inside Columbia, Jefferson City, Fulton, as well other city limits within Missouri. Each city has their own ordiance regarding the issue. The city will start enforcements on July 1 to make sure people are not using fireworks.
Shooting fireworks in the Columbia city limits is a misdeameanor. The Columbia Police Department said extra enforcement worked well during last year's July Fourth holiday.
"Our arrests really went down, as opposed to years before, where we only handled the calls for services that came in, if complaints came in with fireworks were really the only time we dealt with them," said Sgt. John White. "Last year we became a little more proactive."
You can legally shoot off fireworks outside Columbia, although police recommend residents just enjoy watching the official display at Faurot Field.
