Shooting Suspect Still At Large
The Boone County Sheriff's Department responded to a shots-fired call at 12:55 pm. Sheriff's Deputies went to the scene at the 4300 block of Bethany Drive in Columbia.
The victim had already been taken to University Hospital for a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim is now in surgery and in unstable condition.
The Sheriff's Department called the Columbia Police for help finding the suspect. Police don't think the suspect is in the area anymore.The Sheriff's Department blocked off the crime scene until it can process the evidence. The investigation shows there were two weapons at the scene. Police have only found one of those, a black revolver.
"There was one group that was possibly mouthing an individual they got upset, we've also heard there were possible fireworks involved that were being tossed, we don't know for sure yet, as to the possible underlying causes to the shooting itself," said Sergeant Scott Ewing of the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
The Sheriff's Department is looking for a dark-skinned black man, 19-25 years old, with a short and stocky build. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt and black pants or shorts. Police are hoping to get more information from neighbors about what happened since they don't have any substantial leads right now.
