Shots fired at the Cottages, student housing complex
COLUMBIA- Shots were fired early Sunday morning by an unknown suspect at the Cottages of Columbia, student housing complex located on the 2400 block of East Nifong Blvd.
Residents reported that they were woken up around 1:30 a.m. to the sounds of gunfire and saw people running into the street.They told KOMU 8 News that police officers searched cars and spoke to neighbors, but residents of the apartment where the incident took place would not talk to law enforcement.
The Columbia Police Department reports that the distrubrance occurred at an apartment within the complex where a party was taking place with about 50 guests. Shots were fired from the parking lot. One bullet passed through a second story window of the apartment. Four vehicles in the parking lot were also hit by bullets. However, no one was injured during the incident.
A resident reported that he recieved a call from the Cottages this morning which said that the people living in the apartment where the incident took place will be evicted as soon as the investigation ends.
Investigators are still searching for suspects and more evidence. We will continue to provide more information as it enters our newsroom.
