COLUMBIA - Aspen Heights apartment complex management is working with police in investigating a shots fired incident reported Sunday. Police got the call in response to a large disturbance with shots fired at the 3500 block of Aspen Heights early Sunday morning.

The disturbance occurred when two unknown suspects attempted to enter a party of approximately 20 to 30 people and were asked to leave. The two suspects became disruptive and fired multiple shots in the air, according to the police investigation.

There were no reported injuries and no reported property damage from the incident. No suspects have been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

Director of Public Relations for Aspen Heights, Stuart Watkins, released the following statement Monday.

"Aspen Heights is currently working closely with local law enforcement to address a situation involving property disturbance that took place in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 6th. At this time we encourage residents with information pertaining to these events to contact the City of Columbia Police Department at 573-874-7652. Aspen Heights will provide additional information as it becomes available."

On August 30, Columbia Police investigated a resident who was robbed at gunpoint at the apartment complex. At the time, security gates still were not functional.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should call the Columbia Police Department's main line at (573) 874-7448.

UPDATE: Aspen Heights told KOMU 8 News Monday the gates are functioning as they should and have been throughout the weekend.
