COLUMBIA - A sinkhole caused the closure of Gans Road Monday afternoon between Discovery Parkway and Ponderosa Street.
KOMU 8 News spoke to Columbia Public Works Spokesperson Steven Sapp who said the department does not know what caused the sinkhole, but because of the impending weather, they will evaluate the situation and figure out a solution starting Tuesday.
Columbia Public Works received a call from a resident at 3:15 p.m. that a part of Gans Road had collapsed. Public Works dispatched an engineer to look at the road and block off the section that had collapsed about 15 minutes later according to Sapp.
The part of the road that collapsed was dry, and there was no visible water in the sinkhole. Public Works said the road being closed down will not affect traffic or residents in the area trying to get out of their homes.
