Smith Named to Hendricks Award Watch List
COLUMBIA - Missouri defensive lineman Jacquies Smith was named to the Hendricks Award Watch List on Thursday. The Ted Hendricks Award is given out annually to the top defensive end in college football.
Smith started all 13 games in the 2010-11 season and was second on the team in both tackles for loss (10.0) and quarterback sacks (5.5). He finished his junior season with 35 tackles, and added two forced fumbles, two recovered fumbles (one of which he returned 53 yards for a score against Kansas State) and blocked one field goal.
Smith was one of four Big 12 players on the list. Also on the list Frank Alexander of Oklahoma, Brandon Harold of Kansas State and Alex Okafor of Texas. Brian Orakpo of Texas, who received the award in 2008, is the only Big 12 player to be given the honor since the award was created in 2002.
