Softball Cougars Grab No. 21 Spot in NAIA Preseason Poll
Columbia, Mo. - After finishing the 2011 campaign with a 29-16 mark, the Columbia Cougar softball team is in the No. 21 position in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 rating, released today by the national office.
The Cougars, ranked No. 22 in the final poll in the spring of 2011, garnered 163 points in the rating.
Oregon Tech, winner of last season's NAIA National Championship, enters the season in the No. 1 position with 17 of the 20 first place votes and 555 points. Cal State San Marcos, last season's fourth-place finisher, is in the No. 2 position with one first place vote and 535 points. Oklahoma City (Okla.) University takes over the third spot, followed by Central Baptist (Ark.) College and Brenau (Ga.) University.
Columbia's American Midwest Conference foe Williams Baptist (Ark.) College, who finished 2011 with a mark of 31-12, is in the No. 18 position with 240 points.
The Cougars open the 2012 campaign on February 24 when they travel to Conway, Ark. to participate in the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Invitational.
