Some in Oakville Area Oppose Coal Ash Landfill
CLAYTON (AP) - Some residents of the Oakville area of south St. Louis County are pushing back against plans for a coal ash landfill.
Ameren Corp. wants to build the landfill in Oakville. The company says it is safe.
KMOX Radio reports that at a St. Louis County Council meeting on Tuesday, some residents said existing coal ash at the Meramec facility is causing health problems. They believe a new landfill would make matters worse.
The county does not have authority to prohibit the landfill. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is the authorizing agency.
