Some Tornado-Damaged Joplin Churches to Reopen
JOPLIN (AP) - Some of the nearly 25 churches in Joplin damaged or destroyed by the May 2011 tornado are close to reopening.
Workers were putting final touches on The First Community Church, as it prepares to open later this month. The structure has been restored to much like it looked when it was built in the early 1960s.
Also reopening is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which plans an open house Thursday through Saturday.
The Joplin Globe reports churches well into reconstruction projects include Harmony Heights Baptist Church, St. James United Methodist Church and Generations Free Will Baptist Church.
The interior of Faith Baptist church is nearly done, with plans to reopen in January. And the foundation for the Christian Science Church is currently being poured.
