Southeast Missouri Town is Home to Dinosaur Bones
The dinosaurs found there are called Hadrosaurs. The name means "big lizard," and they had duckbilled mouths with at least 1500. They were plant-eaters and grew to more than 40 feet in length. They lived during the Cretaceous period, from 115 to 95 million years ago. Some dinosaur experts think the site in Bollinger County, about 30 miles west of Cape Girardeau, may be the most important one in the Midwest. It was discovered in 1942 when a family digging a well found dinosaur tail bones.
