Southern Missouri Man Shot After Standoff
FAIR PLAY, Mo. (AP) -- A 60-year-old southwest Missouri man is dead after being shot by Polk County sheriff's deputies.
The Polk County Sheriff's department says in a news release that 60-year-old Jerry Holman of Fair Play was shot Thursday afternoon. The shooting occurred outside Fair Play Radiator, Etc., a small repair shop.
A Fair Play officer went to the scene after receiving a call about an armed and intoxicated man. The officer called for backup and two Polk County deputies responded.
The sheriff's department says the deputies tried to talk to Holman and disarm him but he refused to cooperate. Police say Holman pointed his weapon at one of the officers and was shot. He died at the scene.
The two deputies are on leave while the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigates the shooting.
