Spring Break Travelers Hit Columbia Regional Airport
COLUMBIA - Rising prices in airfare didn't keep mid-Missourians from flying Friday, many of them going on spring break trips.
Visitors to Columbia Regional Airport Friday remarked on the line at check in. MU and several local school districts will be off next week, prompting a spike in air travel.
Airport Manager Andrew Schneider said preliminary numbers of ticket sales from the airlines show that March travel is up from January and February. He also said the airport ran several ads catering to the spring break crowd. Schneider said he has no doubt that the strong month is connected with spring break travel.
"The parking lot is full, and that is always a good indicator of strong ticket sales," Schneider said.
Final numbers won't be released until the month is out, probably around April 5th.
