St. Charles County to Vote on Red-Light Cameras

ST. CHARLES (AP) - The fate of red-light cameras in St. Charles County is in the hands of voters.

The St. Charles County Council on Monday voted to place a charter amendment on the Nov. 4 ballot to determine if red-light cameras should be banned. The ban would include the entire county, including St. Peters, the only community in the county that uses red-light cameras.

The amendment would also prohibit installation of new red-light cameras in the county.

Camera supporters say they save lives by making people think twice about rushing through a red light. Opponents say they are aimed at generating money and violate civil rights.
