St. Charles toddler badly injured in dog attack
ST. CHARLES (AP) - A 22-month-old St. Charles girl was left in critical condition after an attack by her grandmother's dog.
Police said the woman was babysitting the girl and her two siblings, ages 5 and 8, when the 80-pound dog attacked Thursday night.
The grandmother lost the tips of several fingers in the attack, and a neighbor who heard the child's screams had to stab the dog several times.
KTVI-TV reported St. Charles County deputies rushed the child from the scene to the hospital because of her severe injuries rather than choosing to wait for an ambulance. The girl was then flown to St. Louis Children's Hospital for further treatment.
