St. Joseph murder suspect turns himself in to Columbia police
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Police Department said Thursday a man wanted for murder in Buchanan County gave himself up Wednesday night in the CPD lobby.
32-year-old Charles Coats was wanted for second degree murder in St. Joseph. Authorities said Coats was sitting on the front porch of his home Saturday when he engaged in a verbal argument with Jason Ginn. A probable cause statement said Ginn started walking away from the house when Coats pulled out a handgun and began firing at him.
Ginn suffered four gunshot wounds to various parts of his body and died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to an autopsy report.
Authorities said Coats fled the scene with his firearm.
The Columbia Police Department said Coats turned himself in at 10:49 p.m. Wednesday. He was being held on no bond.
